Beit El Hekma, as usual, introduces one of the Arabic masterpieces. This time it is “The Journey of Ibn Fatuma” by Naguib Mahfouz. It tells the story of Kandil who is seeking truth, justice, and Gaballand to help his country when he returns home. He starts traveling through different countries, political systems, lifestyles, and beliefs. He experiences hard times during this journey as he loses his wife and children and spends 20 years in prison.
The story of Ibn Fatuma is the story of a truth and peace seeker through which Naguib Mahfouz gives us an insight into the deep inner world of the human soul. “What is the truth?” is the question that Mahfouz tries to explore through Kandil’s journey. It is an eternal question that actors have discussed after the play with the audience. The play is adapted by Mohamed Mamdouh.
